Sony to recall 1.6 million BRAVIA LCD HDTVs at risk of overheating

October 12, 2011

Sony plans to recall 1.6 million BRAVIA LCD HD televisions due to a component that may cause the sets overheat and eventually melt or catch fire, reports Bloomberg. The affected models were manufactured starting in 2007. Since 2008, 11 such incidents have been reported in Japan. Although no such complaints have been filed in the US or Europe, Sony is taking precautionary measures to recall the five BRAVIA sets that may have this faulty component. For more information on which models are affected, check Sony eSupport. (An announcement about the recall is expected to made in the US later today.)
