Stig “The Ultimate Super- human” demos the Masimo pulse oximeter (video) |
January 10, 2013
LAS VEGAS—If you’re ever admitted to a hospital, chances are pretty good that one of the first things you get is a pulse oximeter clipped to your finger to measure your pulse and blood oxygen level. Masimo, one of the first companies to manufacture pulse oximeters for hospitals, released its consumer version, the iSpO2 at CES on Wednesday.
The iSpO2 is both a sensor and a cable that attaches to iOS devices (with 30-pin connectors) and operates using the same technology found in Masimo’s hospital line.
Once the iSpO2 is connected to an iOS device, an application automatically downloads. Then you can easily measure pulse rate, blood oxygenation, and perfusion index measurements simply by slipping the sensor onto your ring finger. The results appear on the screen.
Masimo intends for the iSpO2 to be used by athletes and for aviation/high altitude use. And it also found a unique way to highlight the product at CES: demonstrations by Stig “The Ultimate Superhuman” Severinsen.
